I think of my Inner Voice, my connection to a Higher Consciousness, as my own ruby slippers. It always takes me “home.”
“Home” is the place of peace, centeredness and a feeling of oneness. It opens a door where Self dissolves into the All There Is. It is the soft lily pad to land on when waters are flowing in chaos. It’s the deep well to dip into to answer your pressing questions and dilemmas. The simplest of questions: “What now?”
The tough piece for each of us, as we face crossroads in our lives, is surrendering to his quiet, subtle Inner Voice when we hear its call to us. We know what it’s like to get an idea, inspiration, a nudge, a sudden feeling or premonition. It’s the whisper of the Soul.
To surrender means to admit something else knows everything, and everything good for you. It is to say, of myself, I can do nothing. With my Inner Voice, everything becomes available.
The Inner Voice arrives upon request — in the still of meditation or contemplation, or even silence, on a nature walk or just in a quiet moment you grab that halts time for a while. It quietly comes in like a misty fog to settle around you and bathe you in its wisdom and insight. It gently answers the question that has been pulsating like a heartbeat.
The answers you may receive are often not what you expect — they are often surprising. You know it’s your answer when you feel the energy of a bullseye — the force of the arrow hitting its mark. You know when it’s a point of view or solution you would not have arrived to on your own. There is a very special exhilaration you feel when you Inner Voice has spoken.
That Inner Voice also soothes and comforts you — your own personal nanny who holds you in her lap, rocking you into calm and safety, encouraging your confidence and readying you for your next adventure. Inspirited, we awaken and shake off the fairy dust and boldly march forward.
How to Access the Inner Voice
The Inner Voice will find you whenever you open yourself to receive it. I often find it filling me on a nature walk. When I am only in the state of appreciating beauty and a lovely day, it joins me. How to access it upon demand? A way to access this is to write as you ask your question, or simply sit in a contemplative, quiet state. Let your pen move across the paper as though that Inner Voice is dictating to you. If by the end, you don’t understand what you’ve written, let it sit and come back as few days later. However, if a shift happens, note it and ask yourself if you feel more empowered, humbled or peaceful.
You will know whether your higher consciousness has guided you or if you were stuck in a buffering series of egoic thoughts. If it is the latter, fear, doubt or restlessness will still linger. If there is an energetic “Aha” or a sense of peace, you’ve hit peace and truth.
Make it a daily habit. Asking for guidance will be as essential as brushing your teeth.
When you do experience the impact of Inner Guidance, savor it. Nourish it. How wonderful it is that we always can access the answer to all our questions, and that all we need to do is the simple act of surrender.
So grateful.
