Trying, trying, trying to Create, Self-Express, Manifest? Are you feeling blocked? Are you at a standstill on a creative work, project or your plan for success?
It is likely that you are battling with Perfectionism. The voices may sound like this: “If it can’t be perfect, I just won’t do it…I can’t do it. It won’t be good enough. I will embarrass myself.”
Perfectionism is the ultimate trickster.
Disguised as a desirable virtue, Perfectionism buddies up with you sharing some wonderful ideal that you want to be or achieve. With a chuckle, it plants unattainable standards and expectations. It raises the bar too high, initiates self-doubt and represses that creative spark that could get you going. Then it rolls on the floor with laughter to shame you into submission to stop in your tracks.
But here’s another thought to grab as your new gold ring on the merry-go-round of efforting – that there are no judges out there that matter. We live in a relative, subjective, meaning-making world, and no one has the goods on the truth of a thing. Whether it’s good or not. There are no judges that can matter to you. Someone out there will “get you” and appreciate you. If not, you’re just ahead of your time.
If YOU are your greatest and most persistent critic, there is another trickster at play, believing it is protecting you from the effects of imagined failure. Another illusion.
So consider this: Your opinion and self-judgment don’t matter either. What you believe about yourself and your Works and other endeavors…doesn’t matter.
So Why?
You are the divine means and the vehicle for your Self Expression and your Creations. You, in your human form, are not the real source. You are being used by something so much bigger to express the Work through the filters of your own uniqueness. Perfectionism wants you to believe that there is a little You that must struggle painfully to reach that illusory ideal. It hides the secret that “perfect” is an illusion and something made up by the Ego to hold us in check.
Your creativity – your visions, ideas, your art and your inspiring words – actually come through you and do not originate nor rest in those pockets of your consciousness that assess, belittle and judge you. They come from a higher, spacious, infinite, interconnected and dynamic field of all consciousness which does not know or understand limitations or assessments. It’s the encouraging, empowering voice of that best friend you are to others. It stands over you with a huge basin of gifts ready to pour into you, through you.
Who You are Meant to Be and What You are Meant to Do is waiting to be born and evolve. Your body, mind and spirit comprise the sacred vessel for the expression of your Life and its Meaning. Trust that it will be what it needs to be.
Your real job? Get out of your way way. Release the illusion of perfectionism. You’re always enough, and more than that.
Just be….Authentically You.
Simply allow those Illuminations, Intuition and Insights to come through you. When you prepare to write, paint, speak, ideate or connect with another, invite your Spirit, your Muse, your Higher Self (whatever your Inspirer), and it will open the portals for you. Simply Show Up (everyday), Center Yourself, Ask and Receive. Then, go ahead and do it — manifest the Flow into your artistic or communications medium of choice. The process is divine, and there is no wrong or not good enough. It is purely the essence of your gift, your unique voice in the world. It matters because you matter. You’re here only to be You.
