When you venture onto new things, the first thing you often look for is how others are doing it. You may do this to assess your own capabilities to dip your toe into the ocean and assure yourself you won’t drown if you swim in your uncertainty and inexperience. To prepare, you can research things to death to find some semblance of safety to ensure you learn enough not to humiliate yourself.
Where is that safety to try new things? To often our guts palpitate fear instead of confidence…to even try. We begin to imagine the parade of horribles and then retreat into our safe comfort zones.
How do we train our galloping minds to skip this train of thought?
No one can “do you” better.
Though it often looks like the world demands conformity, it actually applauds and rewards the individual self-expression of inspiring gifts and talents. It also acknowledges the courage to do so. The expression of one unique spark can create a fire of positive experiences and inspiration for others across the globe. Who doesn’t want the courage to go after their visions and dreams.
You are held in Love.
You are always preciously held by something infinite and loving. Think about your Inner Spirit as that maternal figure who accompanies you to the water, lifts you as she walks into the waves, and dunks you playfully until you squeal with delight! That can be the experience of your life — secure in knowing you are “held” as you play in the vast ocean, seeking pure delight.
Be the Art. Be the Expression.
You have a powerful imagination that can manifest. It’s your magical, mystical source that can transform your reality. It is ingrained in you. Let your creative thoughts and words take on their own lives, and land wherever and on whomever. Blow that fluffy dandelion of ideas and let them float and make a home on the passersby, who may notice a positive shift, a warmth, a feeling stirred or an idea inspired. What you think about and focus upon, with faith and resilience, can become realized.
Let yourself go and find your own special brand of self-expression.
One thing is for sure….no one can or will do it just like you would or will do it. We appreciate our uniqueness, and admit that mastery of a thing means a consistent and faithful devotion to the doing of it…over and over again.
When we see the brilliance of artists, athletes, performers, executives or leaders, and immediately feel that we will fall short of our own aspirations, we immediately discount or even forget, how much “trying” it actually took for them to reach excellence. We don’t inquire into how long it took, how many challenges they met, and how many failures they suffered through. We also fail to notice what makes them different or unique. Your first thought often is “I can never be that good.” You don’t think…” I can master this and be my own best version with consistent dedication.”
There is a very good reason why no two people are duplicates –even twins. It’s because IT MATTERS to be unique. Each of us is part of a grand mosaic, a magnificent puzzle piece which represents and contributes a gift to be given that can be like no other. Each of our gifts are equally critical to the whole as those of any other of us. Even if there are a thousand writers writing about the same thing, or hundreds of basketball players dunking balls, hundreds of thousands of leaders in organizations, and billions of people about to be parents, no one other can do these things the way you can or will.
Your safety lies in your uniqueness.
It is the energy of contribution you bring to the table — namely your authenticity and willingness to grow into better versions of yourself. There is no duplicate of “you” to which to compare.
So, what about just imagining the ways you would fully express yourself? Paint pictures with your thoughts. Create the internal movie of your vision. Instead of attending to the “rules” of how to do it — someone else’s rules– decide not to shrink from your ability to manifest your vision, in concert with your intuition and your Higher Consciousness. Trust that the “how” will appear when you need it. You can revel in the knowledge that with devotion and consistency of action, you can express all the True You you can muster, and know, with certainty, that the world is waiting for it.
Any output of your creativity and expression will always operate through the uniqueness of your own filters and world view. If you do have an insatiable need to compare to yourself to others –instead — seek the elements of your own inspiration. Gain an awareness of what moves and excites you. Notice the things and people make you feel good and expansive. Embrace and learn about your innate personal power to move and ignite. Know and appreciate your worth.
Deeply trust that there is someone out there who will affect profoundly — just because you courageously shared your unique expression of your gifts and talents. You will feel the appreciation and the fulfillment of a deep calling.
It IS safe to be you. In reality, to grow and thrive, what other choice is there? You don’t want the deathbed regrets so many people express – that you did not live your life “your way.”
We will definitely miss out on the gifts of someone very special if you hold back.
